I am in the middle of moving bradrowley.net from godaddy.com to bluehost.com. Godaddy is really good for low-cost domain name services; this is what they are best known for. I moved my blog to Godaddy for hosting about a year and a half ago. The site was ok speed-wise, but the performance really degraded over time. I finally figured out why.

Godaddy (and many other low cost hosting companies) host multiple sites on one server. This is referred to as multihoming. That’s usually not a problem… but it can be when over 3,800 different sites are hosted on one server! Well, that makes the decision to relocate the site very easy.

As a result, you may notice a few things that don’t work quite right… please bear with me while I clean things up.

When I started writing my blog(s), I did so mainly because I found it to be a great learning method. After all, you can’t just ramble on about a subject without having some level of knowledge about it… otherwise you just wind up looking like an idiot. I still apply that line of though to my writing. However, I have recently become more interested in the ‘blogosphere’ as whole. I want to share what I have learned with more people, perhaps inspire others and maybe even discover that I’m not that different from other people.

I found a great blog post over at blog of Jared Prins, a colleague of mine. He has summarized a big list of traffic building tips from several different blogging pros. Some of great tips I found helpful are:

Post on weekdays because there are more readers… and post on weekends because there are fewer new posts. Basically, just post regularly!

It’s not enough to allow others to comments/discuss on your blog; you need to read and comment on other blogs as well, including your link (of course).

Learn enough to be an expert in your field.

There is a lot more in Jared’s post… head on over and read it. I’m going to be busy implementing some of his tips.

Jeez, and I though popularity contests ended with high school.
